Extra Credit Reading Notes: Narayan's Mahabharata Part B
These notes are from The Mahabharata by R.K Narayan printed in 1998 (Book Version). This chapter is, "Stakes Unmatched" (dice game!).
- So this dice game/gambling game is so that Duryodhana can beat his cousin Yudhistira. This is after Duryodhana went to Y's palace and saw how great it is.
- This is such a petty man thing to do
- Also, a dice game doesn't prove anything
- Apparently Y feels guilty about gambling, but he can't refuse the offer.
- Y is kinda annoying, "No cheating! It's bad"
- Lame! Duryodhana is having his uncle Sakuni play for him (what's the point of that?
- Y is losing everything, it's kinda funny. Why keep betting all of these things is you keep losing? Don't give up your army and your sheep, fool!
- Vidura is telling the king, Dhitarashtra to kill his son!
- the son was born evil- screaming like a jackal
- Vidura is kinda right though, the king lets Duryodhana do whatever he wants. It would be better if the Pandavas were allies instead of enemies
- The king refuses, duh, but Vidura stays. The king will probably be betrayed by his sons (or die because of them)
- Y bet his brother, Nakula- Y is kinda awful lol
- Okay, ew about the description his wife that he is gambling away! "who is an ideal wife to guide, serve, and sustain a man at all times- ble.
- And Y gives his wife (and his brothers wife) away to his enemies!
- They take her as a slave-what will Y do now?? He actually has no one.
- Oh boom! Of course the smart wife has a way out of this-queen!
- She explains that if Y bet himself first, he would have no right to deal her away.
- She's on her period!
- Oh no. They take her anyway :(
- She's still trying to get out of it- she's the smartest one in the room
- Basically, everyone is fighting now
- Draupaidi asks the gods for help! They help
- The men are tying to unrobe her, but more robes keep showing up-sweet!
- So the Pandavas are released! That was kind of a silly game, it just stirred up drama and fighting- I bet now they really dislike each other
